Contest

If you haven't heard, I entered a homemade baby food contest at www.wholesomebabyfood.com. The winner gets an Amazon gift certificate. If you wouldn't mind, please take a minute to vote for me! If I win, I'll be sure to share what I purchase from Amazon. I'm sure it will be something for Jack :).

Go here to vote, and vote for Meredith's Rainbow. Thanks!

Baby food

We've just about finished up with all of our single food purees. We have mixed a bit here and there with some things, but now that he's had a wider variety, we can come up with more interesting combinations. I'm making all of Jack's food for right now, thanks to Caleb and Becca's mommies for teaching me how easy it can be. So far I've made:
Sweet Potatoes
Cucumbers
Carrots
Peas
Butternut Squash
Blueberries
Apples
Bananas
Mango
Green Beans
Peaches
Pears
Plums

Some pictures of our first baby food making experience:

I'd have to say that Jack's favorite is definitely the bananas, with mangos and carrots coming in at a close second. He also really loves squash and sweet potatoes. Not so crazy about peas, and he'll tolerate the green beans if they're mixed in with some carrots. He loves his food though, and if you're not quick enough with the spoon, he yells and bangs his hands on the high chair. Impatient much? Wonder where he gets that from :).

Swings!

Jackson LOVES swings! We should have known - when he was a little baby, the only thing that would sometimes calm him down was bouncing up and down and rocking. The swing apparently takes him back to his roots! We're lucky enough to have a little playground right in our neighborhood. I see us spending a lot of time there as the days get warmer and Jack gets older.

We love Hokies!

Our Hokies pulled an amazing win last night in Round 2 of the NIT. Next we play Ole Miss (#2) Wednesday at 7pm. We'd like to think Jackson contributed to the winning game by sporting his rally cap!

Go Hokies!

Big boy carseat

Someone got a new carseat, and I bet you know who! We haven't installed it in the car yet, so it's currently taking up space in our dining room. Good place for it, huh?? We're going to keep using the infant seat for another month or so, but we had to try out the new carseat to see if he liked it... I think it's safe to say that he did.

What is this thing, and why am I sitting in it in the house?

Uh huh, I approve of the plush padding and side impact protection...

I love it!

7 months - 3/8/08

Jackson turned 7 months old on my birthday! He's changed so months in his 7 little months here with us. It's hard to believe just how fast they grow up and change in their first year. Everyone says to cherish this time, and you have to, because before you know it, it will pass you right on by. This age is definitely my favorite. He can sit up and play with his toys, he really responds to everything we say, and he reaches for us when we're sitting on the floor playing. He giggles, smiles, coos, squeals, and talks A LOT! We have a lot of fun :). He can get where he wants to go by rolling around, and thankfully he's still sleeping through the night (when he's not sick or teething).

However, our monthly pictures are getting much more difficult! We may just do away with the monthly sign... He would much rather eat it then sit next to it these days!

6 months - 2/8/08

A little late, but I forgot to post 6 month pictures. It's funny to look back and to see how chubby he's getting since starting solid food. Yeah, his cheeks are big, but you should see his thighs!

I love this one, because you can tell that he was talking to us. Look at that little neck!

What kind of party do you want to have?

We went in to get Jackson one morning last week to find him like this in his crib. It's a normal night when he climbs all over and we find him turned around and whatnot, but we found him turned around with an arm busted out! We're thinking maybe he wants to have a toga party??? TOGA!

Just in time for Easter

Jackson has a tooth! He's been a little fussy this week, and we've gone a few nights with our normally sleeping through the night baby getting up every couple hours. Things have not been fun around here! We chalked it up to his double ear infection, knowing that his ears hurt a lot more when he's laying down. Tylenol and Motrin haven't been helping a single bit either.

Thursday night I had a dream that Jack got a tooth, and I remember feeling that little tooth in my dream. Friday morning, we were playing on the bed after his morning bottle when I remembered my dream. So I felt in his mouth, just like I have done for the past couple months when all the other teething signs became so prevalent, and lo and behold - A SHARP LITTLE TOOTH! I'm talking razor blade sharp! And there it is plain as day, if you're lucky enough to sneak a peek. There's one good thing about weaning him from breastfeeding a month ago! Hopefully our good sleeping baby will soon go back to sleeping at night. Until the next tooth comes through :).

Just a fun little video

Jackson has been quite the sick little baby lately. He's gotten a few colds from daycare, which keep ending with ear infections. After his first cold/ear infection, we found out he's allergic to Amoxicillin. With his cold this week, he's ended up with an infection in both ears. Poor baby! Needless to say, we're not getting much sleep these days between the ear pain and 104*+ fevers. A couple of weeks ago we had to take him to Nighttime Pediatrics on a Sunday to get checked out. We had him stripped down to just a little onesie, but we still managed to make him giggle :). Go figure! He LOVES to laugh.

Oh Reesie!

I love my Reesie. She's the absolute best! I got to visit her in January, and I even got to stay at her house! We had separate rooms of course, because mom and dad say it would be "inappropriate" for us to stay together. Whatever that means. But I still had a really good time staying with Reese and her parents.

I tried to woo her, by kissing her hands and such...

I showed her how to have some fun, by playing with our feet...

We held hands...

I asked everyone to stop taking photos, and to please let us enjoy our precious time together...

I gave up asking for privacy...

She even let me sit in her VT baby papasan chair!

I was very sad to leave my Reesie, but I know I'll see her again soon. I told her we'll probably be much bigger the next time we see each other, and doing lots of fun stuff. It can't come soon enough!

Cole Family Christmas

We celebrated the holidays with the Cole Family in January this year. It's easiest for everyone to get together after the hustle and bustle of the real holidays are over with, and it gives everyone something to look forward to in January! We traveled down to Roanoke, Va the weekend of 1/12 for just an overnight trip. Jackson got to visit with his great grandparents, Papa and M, and lots of family that he had never met before. We had such a good time!

And we got to spend time with Jack's Papa, Grandma, and Aunt Sarah, which was the best!

We wish that we could have spent more time with them. Saturday evening we traveled a little further south to Blacksburg to spend the night and have some fun with Bryan, Rachel, and Reese. More on that later.

Johnny Jump Up!

Jackson got a new toy! It's a Johnny Jump Up, and he LOVES it. He loves to jump, and jump, and jump. And jump :). Melissa, Lila's mommy, told us about hers and we thought it would be something that Jack would like since he loves to stand so much. We've been keeping it at Gram's house lately though, since she has more doorways for him to play in. Here's the silly little jumping bean his first time in it.

Meet Jack's new lovey

My good friend Carrie (Becca's mommy) knows someone that hand makes these adorable lovey's, so Jack got one for Christmas. We haven't named him yet, but he's sleeping with his little dragon lovey at night these days. We keep it in the corner of his crib, but every morning when we go in to see him, he's playing with it. It's so cute! It even has his name embroidered on it. Now to think of a name...
